Knowing what you want to do and doing it are not always the same thing. Accountability in coaching is not about being told off; it is a regular, respectful place to be honest about what you intended, what happened and what you want to try next.
This may be useful when…
- You have a goal but keep putting off the first practical step.
- You work best when you have space to reflect and follow through.
- You want to be more deliberate about commitments without adding shame or pressure.
How coaching can help
Coaching can help you make intentions specific, decide what is realistic before the next session and learn from both progress and setbacks. It can provide encouragement and respectful challenge while keeping the direction client-led.
What coaching cannot do
Coaching cannot do the action for you or guarantee a particular result. It is not a substitute for treatment, counselling, therapy or specialist advice where those are needed.
A practical, client-led process
Each conversation can finish with one achievable action that connects to what matters to you. At the next session, Barney will invite reflection: what did you notice, what supported follow-through and what needs adjusting? The aim is learning and momentum, not perfection.
One small next step
Choose one action that can be described in a sentence, give it a realistic time and place, then decide how you will notice that it happened. Keep it small enough that you can learn from it this week.
